To All My Distant Friends

Often times those closest to you
are just that.
Close.
Your next door neighbor.
The one behind you in chemistry class.
Your co-worker across the hall.
They are close to you because at one point in time…
You met.
Face to face.
A handshake if you’re a man,
a hug, for the ladies.
Eye contact.
A simple hello.
One day turns to two.
A week into months.
Months into years.
Yet, had you never met,
You would never be friends.
Your memories would have different faces.
Different laughs.
Different tones.
Still, they would remain memories, nonetheless.
Some good.
Some bad.
Some phenomenal.
Many forming you into the person you are today.
Either way…
Those closet to you are often just that.
close.
